Ahead of the frenzy that is NY Fashion Week I’m doing a mini tribute post to FNO (Fashion Night Out) – the one night for every one in the city to walk from store to store way past their normal closing times and feel like they are a part of the festivities.
Last year was our first official time exploring FNO and decidedly it’s best to go without a plan. For those that are looking for some guidance, here are a few tips & tricks we learned from last year. Check out the official site and make your own digital itinerary. [Note: I will do a little update post next week with actual pictures from our adventures]
The Findling’s Finds FNO Awards (circa 2011):
[disclaimer: these photos for once are not mine, despite priding myself on being the photog for my blog – this time last year there was no instagram SO here are snaps from the various mentioned shops & their facebook photos]
Best Freebie: Juicy Couture
[650 Fifth Avenue]
We accidentally walked into the west village location and were surprised with a DJ, cute cocktails and a sample of their newest fragrance. Not only do they give away a mini sample every year – my bottle from last year is still my go-to travel perfume. Tip: This year go to the 5th Ave location for an Instagram exhibit and digital photobooth for some memorable photos of your night out
Best Social Media: DVF/ Diane Von Furstenberg
[135 Wooster Street]
DVF held a very interactive twitter contest leading up to the day — Once inside the store, apps were being served along with a sample of perfume to take home and if you had the patience, an impromptu photo studio was set up and spitting out flipbook style souvenirs.
Best Party: Betsey Johnson
[138 Wooster Street]
Music from DJ Kalkutta, makeup by Stila Cosmetics, a yogurt parfait bar by Yoplait, live models, cupcakes, champagne… what could go wrong? Maybe I’m also a teensy bit biased since she is a fellow ‘cuse alum
Best Mix of Fashion Goodness: Teen Vogue Block Party
[Bleecker Street & West 11th Street]
Essie’s celeb manicurist, Elle Gerstein did free manicures, not to mention the laid back feeling of the open air tents and assortment of other activities. Despite the relatively long line, we waited to the side and enjoyed ourselves at the Arizona Iced Tea Smoothie bar. Some other highlights included seeing models walking in too too high heels on treadmills in windows and lots of celebrity appearances ranging from VS Angels to er, well Justin Bieber but as you can imagine we did not wait in line – we are impatient New Yorkers after all.
And last but not least… here is this year’s promo video to get you pumped up:
See you all Thursday, September 6th!
